Jinan, the capital city of East China's Shandong province, boasts more than 9,000 years of history and profound historic culture. There are many places of historic and cultural interests worth visiting in the city, including ancient villages. Here are some of the ancient villages in Jinan city.

Fangyu Village

Located in a valley southwest of the Qi Great Wall Scenery area on Dafeng Mountain, Fangyu village is an ideal place to escape from the bustle of urban life and enjoy silence and peace.

Around 90 percent of villagers are surnamed Fang, and their ancestors migrated from Hongtong county, Shanxi province, about 600 years ago. The village is a true "stone city", with its houses, roads, hitching posts, rolls, mills, chairs, vats and cooking benches all made of stone. The stone houses, many over 100 years old, are still in good condition, as is the town well dug in the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1711-1799) of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). North of the well is a locust tree, which is said to be 200 years older than the well.
