Ancient villages worth visiting in Jinan: Part Ⅱ

Lujialing Village

Liujialing village, built on top of a mountain, is the highest village in Shandong province and can be traced back to Emperor Yongle (1360-1424) of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

Houses, tables and chairs, cooking benches, rolls, mills, and vats that were made of stones several centuries ago are still in good condition and in use today. Of the five locust trees planted when the village was built and witnesses to its development, only one has survived.

At the junction between the village and Zhangqiu district of Jinan city is the Qi Great Wall which was built during the Warring States Period (475-221 BC) as a fortification to defend against invading enemy states. It is a good place for hiking and exploring.

Villagers here love literature and art. More than 100 years ago people here bought musical instruments at their own expense and started their traditional opera performances. Now the original two-person theater troupe has developed into one with more than 30 performers, and they do shows around the country.
