Hydrogen energy usually refers to the energy released by hydrogen during physical and chemical changes. As a green and efficient energy source, it is a better choice to solve  energy problems when compared with tidal or wind energy in terms of storage and transport. It is regarded as the clean energy source with the most potential in the 21st century. In recent years, the core technology of using hydrogen energy has made a major breakthrough in the international arena, and hydrogen energy is moving toward commercialization.

Ningbo government stated that it is necessary to build a hydrogen energy industrial base with global influence. To achieve this goal, the city will take two steps. One step is to build 10 to 15 hydrogen refueling stations over three years with the goal of achieving a production scale of 600 to 800 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. By 2022, industrial clusters of fuel cell stacks, key core components, and fuel cell vehicles will be constructed.
