Wu Xinming, head of Suzhou New District, recently met with guests from Suzhou branch of Japan-based Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC).

Kawamoto Kiko, head of SMBC's Suzhou branch thanked the management committee of SND for their support.

SMBC established a branch in SND in 1997 and over the past two decades, the Suzhou branch has offered high-quality financial services to local companies and boosted SND's economic and social development, said Kawamoto.

He hopes that the management committee will continue to support the development of SMBC in the district.

Wu Xinming said that SND maintains sound relations with Japan in economy and trade.

With the most number of Japan-funded companies in the Yangtze River Delta region, SND now houses over 540 Japanese companies with a total investment of $7 billion and total export-import volume of more than $10 billion, added Wu.

Wu said that in 2019 SND will continue to improve its business climate in a bid to attract more Japanese companies.

He expects SMBC to play an active role in introducing Japanese companies to SND.

Headquartered in Tokyo, SMBC is a leading Japanese financial institution and one of top 10 commercial banks in the world. Among five of its branches in China, the Suzhou branch ranks second in scale to Shanghai branch.
