Guangdong, HK, Macao strengthen cooperation in food safety

"Accredited Farms"

The "accredited farms" plan was initiated by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of Hong Kong to guarantee vegetable production safety for both Hong Kong citizens and vegetable planters, as poisonous vegetable events have bothered local citizens since 1987. 

With the high urbanization of Hong Kong, many farmers returned to the Chinese mainland. To meet the daily demand in Hong Kong for thousands of tons of vegetables, farms on the Chinese mainland have become a major vegetable producer for the island city. As a result, the "accredited farms" plan was expanded to the Chinese mainland.
