In 2018, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region's fixed assets investment in highway transportation was recorded at 77.8 billion yuan ($11.6 billion). The total length of highways in the region reached 125,400 kilometers, and the length of expressways open to traffic was 5,563 km.

The region is expected to invest 94 billion yuan to highway construction in 2019. Work on eight expressways with a total length of 550 km will begin this year, while three expressways totaling 187 km will be renovated. The region will continue construction of 26 expressways, including three expressways with an overall length of 392 km open to the public this year, namely the Yangshuo-Luzhai, Guigang-Long'an, and Hezhou-Bama expressways,. Construction on the Leye-Baise and Chongzuo-Shuikou expressways are expected to be completed in 2019.

The traffic mileage of expressways will be near 6,000 km and more than 5,000 km of highways will be built in rural areas throughout the region by the end of 2019.
