Suining Economic and Technological development Zone was founded in June 1992 and upgraded to be a national-level economic and technological development zone by the State Council in July 2012.

The zone, covering a planning area of 117 square kilometers and a completed area of 36 square kilometers, is a key emerging industrial park in Sichuan. It is a demonstration park for the province's protection of intellectual property rights, among the first batch of industrial bases for high-tech industries and a manufacturing base for China's photoelectric industry.

The zone focuses on three pillar industries: electronic information, biological medicine and cultural tourism, forging a sustainable industrial chain with easy access to Chengdu and Chongqing, good supporting facilities and optimized systems. It aims to build six parks: an Integrated Circuit Industrial Park, an Electronic Circuit Industrial Park, a Photoelectric Industrial Park, a Machinery and Equipment Industrial Park, European and American Industrial Parks and the Guanyin Cultural Industrial Park.

To date, the number of private enterprises and individually-owned businesses has reached 4,104 and 11,989, respectively. The gross added value of the zone’s private businesses achieved 9.63 billion ($1.43 billion) in 2016, 10.95 billion in 2017 and 5.74 billion in the first half of 2018.

By the end of 2022, the zone is expected to achieve a GDP of 28 billion yuan, with its public budget revenue reaching 1 billion yuan and its main business income hitting 150 billion yuan.
