Chenglingji Comprehensive Bonded Zone was set up upon approval from the State Council in July 2014. As Hunan's closest thing to a free trade zone, it is a part of Hunan New Port Area, the province's window for its opening-up policies and a water transportation hub.
Covering an area of 2.98 square kilometers, the zone consists of four independent areas for customs service, bonded processing, warehousing and logistics, and bonded service.
The zone has developed five pillar industries, including assembly of IT equipment, processing of imported grain, meat and natural rubber, and exhibition of commodities.
In 2017, Chenglingji Comprehensive Bonded Zone generated an import-export volume of $1.48 billion and was honored as a pilot zone by the provincial government.
