A promotional conference was held by the Department of Science and Technology of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in Hong Kong on March 6 to seek more cooperation in scientific and technological innovation.
A total of 100 Hong Kong enterprises, scientific research institutions, universities, business associations, and financial institutions attended the conference. They expressed the desire to bring their advanced R&D achievements and innovative resources to suitable industrial parks in Guangxi that can offer a multitude of preferential policies.
In response, Cao Kunhua, head of the department, said that Guangxi has already set up a 5-billion-yuan ($745-million) special fund to support innovation-driven development from 2017 to 2020. A maximum scientific research subsidy of 10 million yuan can be awarded to new-type R&D institutions, and up to 5 million can be awarded to encourage the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and technological exchanges.

More preferential policies related to joint R&D, project cooperation, and talent cultivation will be rolled out in the future, added Cao.
Fifty Guangxi enterprises and institutions also showcased their latest achievements in traditional Chinese medicine and big data, among others, to their Hong Kong peers at the conference. The two parties were eager to expand markets through enhanced cooperation with each other.
The department is now committed to helping a group of innovative projects settle in the International and Innovative Cooperation Circle on Traditional Medicine and the Health Industry among Guangxi, Hong Kong, Macao, and the ASEAN Countries.
A China-ASEAN Sci-Tech City will be coming soon and welcomes the participation of all Hong Kong people, said Cao.
