Watching lantern shows and eating sweet dumplings have long been Chinese Lantern Festival traditions. However, Hainan province in South China will celebrate the Feb 19 holiday with some special customs this year.

The dragon dance is a traditional dance to celebrate the Lantern Festival in Zhonghe town, Danzhou. The dragon is an auspicious symbol and people perform the dance to pray for favorable weather and a fruitful harvest. Locals voluntarily organize into a dragon dance parade every year to deliver good wishes and create a festive atmosphere.
