The southwestern Guangxi city of Chongzuo will enter a new era with the construction of its first high-speed rail, the Nanning-Chongzuo Intercity Railway, which will begin operating by 2021.
Costing 17.36 billion yuan ($2.54 billion), the 119.3-kilometer rail line is set to run through Nanning, Wuxu International Airport, Fusui South, Qujiu South and Chongzuo South railway stations. The entire journey will take only half an hour.
It will be the first double-track electrified intercity railway in Guangxi, and is designed to support a maximum speed of 250 kilometers per hour. Construction, undertaken by China Railway 11 Bureau Group Co Ltd, is now in full swing.
Not only will the rail line seamlessly connect rail and air travel upon completion, but it is also expected to extend to Pingxiang and form an essential part of the Nanning-Pingxiang-Hanoi-Singapore Railway in the future.
