Set up in 1998, Ningxiang National Economic and Technological Development Zone was approved to be a provincial level development zone in 2002 and upgraded into a national one under the approval of the State Council in November 2010. Lying at the core area of Changsha western industrial corridor in Hunan province, the zone occupies a planning area of 60 square kilometers.
Focusing on green and healthy development, the zone has strived to set up a first-class national development zone with a high-end platform and livable environment. Over years of development, the zone has witnessed an incessant improvement of the infrastructure and functional supportive facilities. More than 400 enterprises have been introduced and cultivated in the zone, including some 70 high-tech enterprises, which boost the growth of four modern pillar industries, covering food and beverage companies, advanced equipment manufacturing and new materials, as well as motherhood supplies, baby products, cosmetics, and health care products.
In order to foster the development of the beauty care business, the zone cooperated with the China-Korea Beauty Association and set up a China-Korea Beauty Valley in August 2017 with a planning area of 4,170 mu (278 hectares), which will focus on bringing in personal care and make-up products from Korea.
In 2017, the gross industrial output value above designated size totaled 107.89 billion yuan ($16 billion), and its added value of industries above a designated scale hit 25.18 billion yuan, an increase of 18.2 percent and 13.8 percent respectively, joining the nation's "100 billion yuan industrial park club".
