One-day record highs were set on Feb 7 as 113,000 individuals and 2,200 vehicles passed smoothly through Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HMZB) Zhuhai Port.

Overall during the Feb 4-10 holiday, 560,000 people passed through the port facility, averaging 80,000 daily. In addition, there were nearly 13,000 vehicle crossings, averaging 1,800 a day. It was the first seven-day holiday since the bridge was opened to traffic on Oct 24, 2018.

Overlapping passenger flows, both inbound and outbound, led to ongoing traffic spikes. As families comprised much of the passenger volume, children had to pass manual inspection channels accompanied by adults. The proportion of children 6 years old or under was more than three times usual during this peak travel time.

Coordination with joint inspection units proved effective. Zhuhai-Hong Kong Passenger Clearance Building staff had extended work hours. At the same time, 24-hour access to the Car Appliance Crew Inspection Hall was ensured during passenger flow rush hours. It was also critical that well-trained volunteers were on-hand to assist with any difficulties.
