The high-tech industry is composed of enterprises engaging in the R&D, production and technical services of one or more high-techs and high-tech products. It mainly includes three fields: information technology, biotechnology, and new material technology. To develop the high-tech industry, Xi'an insists on cultivating competitive industry clusters and extending the industrial chain, adhering to the "Internet+" concept, focusing on the development of core and hard technology industries, implementing Made in China 2025 strategy, leading and driving industrial transformation and upgrading, and promoting high-end and intelligent development.
According to the statistics from the Provincial Bureau of Statistics, in 2017, the added value of the high-tech industry in Xi'an was 124.656 billion yuan; a total of 1,839 high-tech enterprises have been recognized by the state; and the fixed-asset investment of high-tech enterprises was 54.587 billion yuan. The total scale of the high-tech industry reached 504.581 billion yuan, of which electronic and communication equipment manufacturing, scientific research and technical services, information transmission, software and information technology services are the most prosperous. In addition, the technology market in Xi'an has become increasingly active. The annual transaction volume of the technology market has reached 84.842 billion yuan, and the number of patent applications has increased significantly, reaching 81,110.
