Guangxi plans to strengthen oversight over the safety of take-out food, food sold online, and healthcare products.

New food safety regulations were approved at the 2nd Session of the 13th Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional People's Congress in Nanning on Jan 31.

According to the regulations, people with diseases considered by health authorities as detrimental to food safety are not allowed to deliver food. Qualified delivery people should avoid contaminating the food.

Online sellers will need to be licensed to sell food, and third-party e-commerce platforms and individual websites should be registered at relevant departments and subject to routine inspections.

Merchants will be forbidden from selling unregistered healthcare products and tricking customers with false advertising. Those selling products out of licensed site for business operation will face harsh punishments.

Additionally, Guangxi will set up a food accounting system, strengthen management of food nearing the end of a long shelf life, hold producers and vendors more accountable for unsafe food, and tighten supervision of small grocery stores.
