A train departed Novosibirsk in Russia for Changchun, Northeast China's Jilin province on Jan 29, according to information released by the Department of Commerce of Jilin Province.

The service was part of testing work being carried out on the Changchun-Hunchun-Europe line. In order to test the line's ability to handle large volumes of freight, 62 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) sheet materials were carried on board the train.

Traveling more than 7,100 kilometers, the train will arrive in Changchun via Hunchun railway port in early February. Following further testing, the train service will then start to operate regularly.

As the province's second international train service after the Changchun-Manzhouli-Europe train, it will boost Changchun's ambition of developing into a logistics hub for the region, and enhance Jilin's participation in the Belt and Road Initiative.
