Southwest China's Guizhou province plans to take steps to promote garbage classification. According to the plan, the recycling rate of recyclable domestic waste should exceed 35 percent by the end of 2020.

Environmental protection records will be introduced and citizens that classify domestic garbage correctly will be rewarded with credits. This year, Guizhou will accelerate the establishment of the waste classification and treatment system in urban areas, and begin introducing the system in rural areas as well.

All Guizhou residents will need to sort their garbage into the following categories: harmful, perishable, recyclable and other. Disposal facilities will need to be established accordingly.

Meanwhile, Guizhou is establishing a domestic garbage disposal system that will generate power by incinerating garbage. It is expected that by 2020, the system will utilize 1.92 tons of garbage per day to generate power, making use of over 60 percent of domestic garbage throughout all cities and towns.

Guizhou will provide financial support for the development of a recycling, utilization, collection and transport system. Land needed for domestic garbage disposal facilities will be given priority, and evaluation of the garbage classification system will be included in the assessment to determine whether the province is creating an environmentally friendly society.
