Innovation behind industrial growth

Zhuhai's total industrial output value above a designated size reached 321.4 billion yuan ($50 billion) in the first quarters of 2018 due to a strong growth rate of 12.7 percent and strong supporting industries such as biomedicine, new materials, and information technology.

The added value of industrial enterprises in Zhuhai above a designated size rose by 13.7 percent to 78 billion yuan, according to official statistics. The advanced manufacturing industry accounted for 55 percent of the growth, while equipment and high-tech manufacturing accounted for 37.5 percent and 29.3 percent, respectively.

Equipment manufacturing, one of Zhuhai's primary industries, is dominated by six large enterprises with a market value of tens of billions of yuan, and 44 companies valued at several billion yuan. Among the large number of projects being developed in Zhuhai, 60 have received over 100 million yuan in investments, totaling 48.3 billion yuan. The local government announced that another 56 equipment manufacturing projects are still in the preparatory stages and are expected to have a huge impact by creating an industrial cluster. These projects will require at least 52.9 billion yuan in investments.

Tech giants like Gree Electric Appliances, Livzon Pharmaceutical Group, China Aviation Industry General Aircraft, Orbita Aerospace Science & Technology, and Yunzhou-Tech are highly competitive in terms of innovation.

New technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, Internet of Things, and life sciences have also taken root in Zhuhai and are beginning to see results. 

The AG600 amphibious aircraft, the largest of its kind in the world, is made by China Aviation Industry General Aircraft based in Zhuhai. The aircraft is assembled at the Zhuhai Aviation Industrial Park.
