According to the cross-border trade policy issued by the State Council, trading goods worth less than 8,000 yuan are exempt from import duty and taxes.

In history, Ereenhot, a key hub on the “tea road” which connects China to Mongolia and Russia, has played a key role in trade development. The road was established in the early Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and was mainly used to transport Chinese tea, starting from Taiyuan in Shanxi province, passing through Hohhot, the capital of the region, and Ereenhot to Russia.
