Greater Bay skippers race sailboats off Zhuhai's shores

Sailing teams from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Huizhou, Hong Kong, and Zhuhai faced off at the Jiuzhou Cup · Zhuhai-Macao Bay Sailing Championship on Dec 29 and 30.

The Endurance Race on Saturday was held around the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge whereas Short-Distance Races took place Sunday off Xianglu Bay in Jida, Xiangzhou District.

The 10 competition's FarEast 28R keelboats each accommodate six sailors and were often easily visible to spectators on shore. The high-performance racing boats are easy to handle. At a length of 28 ft, their maximum speed is 20 knots.

The Zhuhai All Sports Federation and Jiuzhou Holdings Group managed the event under the umbrella of the Guangdong Yacht Industry Association, Hong Kong Sailing Federation, and Macau Sailing Association. It has deepened the integration of tourism and sports under Zhuhai's All-for-One tourism drive.
