Wuhu Economic and Technological Development Area, in Wuhu city, East China's Anhui province, was promoted by the State Council in April 1994 as a national pilot area largely for bonded trade, industrial development and incubation services.

The area is 90 minutes' drive from Hefei Xinqiao International Airport and only 40 minutes from Nanjing Lukou International Airport.

With a planned land area of 121.68 square kilometers, the area is home to 200,000 people. There are 369 million people and 46 large and medium-sized cities in the surrounding 400 sq km.

To date, the area has built up three competitive pillar industries: automobiles and auto parts, household appliances and new materials. In 2015, the three industries' sales revenue totaled 127.93 billion yuan ($18.4 billion), contributing 9.1 percent to  regional GDP.

The area also houses 97 certified high-tech enterprises and 82 provincial (or above) research institutions, 15 of which are of national level.

Its vigorous business environment has attracted over 3,000 investors, about 30 of which are Fortune Global 500 enterprises, including Johnson Controls, Siemens, Toshiba and Fujitsu.
