In February 2016, Nanchang Comprehensive Free Trade Zone was formed on the basis of the former Nanchang Export Processing Zone. It is situated in the central north of Jiangxi province.

It consisted of two zones with a total planning area of two square kilometers. Zone A, 0.31 sq km, is located in the core area of Nanchang National High-tech Zone, while Zone B, 1.69 sq km, is located in the hinterland of Ganjiang New District.

The zone focuses on four leading industries: electronic communications, biomedicines, trade logistics and bonded services. A total of 35 enterprises, mostly managing opto-electronics have already settled in area.

In 2016, the import and export value of Zone A had reached $1.9 billion, of which exports amounted to $960 million.

Zone B has introduced several projects, including Yude intelligent manufacturing park, a mobile cloud computing data center, a cross-border commodity exhibition and trade center, Zhongjiang bonded warehouse, Chisheng modern logistic park and standard workshops established by the Association of Web Professionals, a large State-owned company.
