A recruitment fair arranged by South China's Hainan province in Beijing on Saturday received more than 11,260 resumes from talented people from universities and institutions in the capital city and many who traveled far from other parts of the country expressly for the event.

The fair, jointly organized by the Hainan Provincial People's Government, the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, was staged at Zhongguancun State Self-dependent Innovation Demonstration Area in Beijing.

The fair offered jobs for 7,471 posts in 371 government agencies, institutions and companies, with some posts promising an annual salary of more than 1 million yuan. It was Hainan's latest move to gather urgently needed human resources to help spur the tropical island's transformation into a free trade zone.

The fair also featured 300 posts for public servants and 100 posts for university graduates who have worked at grassroot units around the country for at least two years.

The new talents will help serve key sectors or projects in the fields of pharmaceuticals, internet technology, ocean economy and tourism.

Lin Heng, a native of Hainan who earned his PhD degree and has been working in a chemical company in Japan, came to Beijing for the fair and signed an agreement with Hainan University for a post at its national laboratory for marine resource applications.

"I'm full of expectations toward the development of Hainan Free Trade Zone and considering a new career on the tropical island," said Wang Mengxiong, a PhD degree holder who has worked at a medical company in Beijing for a couple of years.

Hainan Normal University, one of the major institutions of higher learning in Hainan, received about 50 resumes from people with PhD degrees within two hours. Some are from universities in Beijing, while some others came from places as far as Heilongjiang in Northeast China for the event, said a recruitment staff member with the university.

The central government announced its support for developing Hainan into a pilot international FTZ and exploring the construction of a free trade port with Chinese characteristics at a gathering on April 13 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the island becoming a province and a special economic zone.

Shen Xiaoming, governor of Hainan province, said at the opening ceremony of the talent fair that the strategic positioning of Hainan by the central government as a pilot zone to comprehensively deepen reform and opening-up, a national pilot zone for ecological civilization construction, an international tourism consumption center, and an area that serves the country's national major strategies, will bring changes in three aspects to Hainan.

First, Hainan will become an important junction for the flow of human resources, logistics and capital, and then an important allocation node for global resources. Well-known enterprises at home and abroad have begun to settle in Hainan, bringing a large number of high-quality employment opportunities to young people.

Second, investment and trade liberalization and facilitation will bring unprecedented investment opportunities.

Third, the integrated development of Hainan Island as an international tourism center and a pilot zone for national ecological civilization, and the implementation of the 59-country visa-free policy and the offshore duty-free policy will promote the upgrading and internationalization of the tourism industry. "Hainan is a place where dreams and aspirations come true," said the governor.

Hainan announced a recruitment action plan on May 13 aimed at finding 1 million talented workers by 2025. The plan is seen as key to implementing central government directives to provide a welcoming environment for individuals who can contribute to making Hainan an international FTZ.

To counter its shortage of talent, Hainan has introduced a series of policies, such as offering free housing and providing rent subsidies, to attract high-quality domestic and international workers.
