Doumen park will accelerate Baijiao Sea Bass industry

An agro-eco-industrial park, offering deep processing of local specialities such as sea bass and offering logistics services, came under development at Baijiao Modern Agricultural Demonstration Park in Doumen District on Oct 29.

Guangdong Qiangjing Agriculture Group has invested 980 million yuan ($153 million) to create a comprehensive site focused on aquatic product processing. The new park is also to be versed in production, R&D, storage, and cultural tourism.

Planned are a 100,000-ton cold storage house, automated production workshop capable of a daily output of 2,000 tons, agriculture and processing technology R&D center, and tourist resort featuring Baijiao Sea Bass.

Guangdong Qiangjing Agriculture is a key enterprise with provincial acknowledgement. The company has a promising vision for the Baijiao Sea Bass brand, which is a National Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) product. It aims to deliver the product with improved quality at an increased price.

Currently, Doumen is home to 400,000 mu (103 sq miles) of fish ponds and generates 70 percent of the country's total sea bass output.

Baijiao Modern Agricultural Demonstration Park is part of Zhuhai National Agricultural Science & Technology Park. With this project, it is getting closer to becoming a green agricultural product distribution and logistics center. The goal is to be an industry-city integration example, according to a park manager.
