Gree enhances world-class facility

Gree Electric Appliances of Zhuhai once again came under the global limelight with the grand opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) on Oct 23.

The world leading home appliances manufacturer is the supplier of air-conditioning equipment at the HZMB Zhuhai Border Checkpoint which processes passengers traveling between the two special administrative regions and the city in Chinese mainland.

The equipment has been certified as internationally leading with all parts developed under independent intellectual property rights. The high technology standards are in line with the safety demand and performance requirement set by the longest sea-crossing bridge in the world, adding to the genuine nature of the "China-made" engineering marvel.

"Made in China, loved by the world" is Gree's motto. The commitment was made with the hope to reverse the negative impression about Chinese products which used to be labeled as inferior and unreliable.

With unremitting efforts to strengthen innovative capacity, Gree has become the world's largest air conditioner manufacturer with a strong presence around the globe. Gree-made air-conditioners have led the world with a market share of 21.9 percent.

To achieve such a status, the company has invested heavily in research and development, and talents. In 2017 alone, the R & D investment was 5.7 billion yuan ($821 million). With 42,219 patent applications, including 18,911 invention patents, Gree ranks first in the domestic household appliance industry and seventh in various industries, according to statistics from the National Intellectual Property Administration.

Meanwhile, there is a mature system providing consistent intellectual support. In place are 12 research academies, 74 research institutes, 929 laboratories, and two academician workstations, in addition to one national key laboratory, one national engineering technology research center, one national industrial design center, and one nationally recognized enterprise technology center. Gree also has its own robot engineering technology R&D center.

With a firm foothold in home appliances, Gree is now well versed in various businesses such as intelligent equipment, precision mold, telecommunications equipment thanks to its "hi-tech" transformation.

It represents the response to the "Made in China 2025" national initiative.

The company's revenue accumulated in the past six years is approximately 2.3 times that of the past 21 years, according to the company's financial report. The revenue reached 150 million yuan in the first three quarters of 2018.
