Nine new departments open in Jilin

To streamline government services, nine new provincial-level departments were established in Jilin province on Oct 18, including a Department of Culture and Tourism, Department of Market Management and Department of Emergency Management.

After the plan was approved by the central government, reforms quickly began taking place in Jilin. A meeting to discuss restructuring was held on Oct 15, with new department directors also being elected on the day.

In response to the call for a sweeping reform on government institutions from the Communist Party of China (CPC), Jilin has steadily pushed forward the restructuring of its provincial government since the beginning of this year. At present, there are a total of 60 municipal party and government institutions in Jilin, among which 43 have executive power.

Reforms on provincial-level institutions are expected to be complete by the end of this year, while reforms on municipal-level and county-level institutions will be finished by the end of March 2019.
