A tourism and catering association was set up in Hohhot, capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Sept 26.

Aiming to increase global recognition of Inner Mongolia, the association will hold diverse activities and events such as annual cooking contests, a food expo, and competitions for food and beverage innovation.

At the same time, 16 related committees will be established to facilitate smooth development of tourism and catering industries.

A map was produced, combining information about catering and tourism in Inner Mongolia, and released at the launch ceremony of the association.

“We'd like to use a fashionable way to guide consumers to find delicacies along their journeys,” said Wu Guodong, the executive president of the association.

He said, the map could also use the appeal of delicious food to entice more travelers to travel more extensively in Inner Mongolia.

According to local media reports, more versions of the food map would be published oriented towards different factors like diverse environments and cultures.

Wu said, only classic Mongolian cuisine, authentic regional food and iconic delicacies of each region could be listed on the map. In addition, some local delicacies that risk extinction will be published.
