Baotou, in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, welcomed 152,600 tourists during the National Day holiday period which ran from Oct 1 to 7, according to Baotou Daily.

The figure represented year-on-year growth of 12.1 percent, and tourism revenue reached 983 million yuan ($142 million), year-on-year growth of 16.3 percent.

Tourists to the city mostly preferred short tours of the local area, with stops at major tourist attractions such as Wudang Lamasery, Meidai Monastery, and the Chilechuan, Nanhai Wetland and Shimen scenic areas.

To maintain a safe and orderly environment for tourists, the city introduced extra security patrols and inspections at key tourist attractions, with special arrangements to ensure adequate numbers of officials on duty to handle complaints over the holiday.
