Changchun signed an corporation agreement with Baidu to provide online government services on Baidu Knows (百度知道), a online query-based searchable community to share knowledge and experience, at a press conference in Changchun, Jilin province on Sept 26.

Initiated by Baidu, one of the leading technology companies in China, the project aims to provide comprehensive and authoritative answers for the queries of Chinese citizens in terms of government policies and services.

Six varieties of services have already been available for Changchun citizens online, including housing accumulation funds, medical insurance and marriage registration. The platform will cover all public-related services in the near future. A series of offline service systems will also be established. Changchun people will be able to consult with government officials via phone calls if they have any doubts and worries.

"By sharing data and information, different departments of the government will be able to provide one-stop services to citizens with only one ID card," said Zhang Haizhi, director of the General Office of the People's Government of Changchun.

As the first city to corporate with Baidu on online government services, Changchun stood out among other cities for its rapidly increasing economy and active participation of the public. The collaboration with Baidu will obtain more public support and further bolster government authority.

After Changchun, the project is expected to be ushered to more than one hundred cities in China in the near future.
