China's Silicon Valley helps Tibet to battle poverty

Some twenty Zhongguancun-based enterprises or organizations, including JD, Leyard and OriginWater will carry out their poverty-reduction projects in Tibet autonomous, local media reported on Sept 20.

Headed by the administrative committee of Z-Park, delegation comprised of those companies' representatives visited Lhasa, capital of Tibet on Sept 13, to discuss how to deploy their technology transfer bases in the area.

"We should focus on the construction of joint industrial parks," noted Zhai Lixin, director the Zhongguancun administrative committee," By building an innovative and entrepreneurial environment, both parties will benefit a lot from the open sharing of resources."

Zhai suggested that Zhongguancun enterprises forge long term partnerships with local enterprises and connect local industries with Beijing. He also encouraged Tibet enterprises and talents to start new business in the capital.

After the discussion, the administrative committee of Z-Park and the People's Government of Lhasa City signed the framework agreement on reducing poverty with technology transfer.

Later on Sept 14, Zhongguancun-based digital display provider Leyard Group established an education fund for local students in Dangxiong country, Lhasa.

By now, many Zhongguancun enterprises have already been fulfilling their social responsibilities in Tibet autonomous region.

OriginWater Technology, a waste water treatment company is working together with the Lhasa government in environment protection. The company has created over 100 well-paid jobs for locals.

JD, on the other hand, has built several warehouses in Lhasa, providing cutting-edge logistics services for local enterprises.

The Lhasa branch Ucommune, a co-working space unicorn, has gathered hundreds of startup projects and famous enterprises, including Toutiao News and Didi. The branch is also functioning as a internship base for the literature and journalist schools of Minzu University of China.
