The China International Fishery Development Forum held in Changsha county on Sept 13 has attracted more than 300 participants from 20 countries looking to explore the new fishery business model.

Changsha Huanghua International Airport opened regular cargo flights to North America on July 21. As of September 10, Changsha has imported $25 million in seafood, driving more than $100 million in total exports. It also led the opening of cargo flight routes from Changsha to Dhaka, Bangladesh and Manila, Philippines.

Xu Xiangping, director of the Commerce Department of Hunan Province, said that the value of seafood imports and exports is predicted to reach $1 billion in 2019 and exceed $10 billion by 2025. With the introduction of cargo flights to countries rich in seafood, Changsha is expected to become a global seafood distribution center. Xu said that the city will strive to make Changsha Huanghua International Airport the first thing that comes to mind when they hear the word “seafood”.

Starting in the second half of this year, Changsha will adopt a new global fresh supply chain business model, including overseas purchasing, direct charter flights, cross-border e-commerce, and bonded goods. It will transport fresh seafood from all over the world to China as quickly as possible. Changsha is also planning to build a seafood town, promoting the seafood retail plan, and strives to build an international seafood center with a complete industrial chain.
