2018 has been a bonanza year for Changchun's economy. A total investment of 34.22 billion yuan ($5 billion) was introduced to the capital city of Jilin province at an investment environment forum on Sept 4.
The success was attributed to various measures taken by the city government in upgrading the investment environment in Changchun.
First, the process of the registration and establishment of foreign enterprises has been streamlined and put under constant supervision and guidance from the government.
Changchun also regards talents as the cornerstone of the city's economy. A series of supportive policies have been launched to provide comprehensive services for investors, researchers and entrepreneurs. The government has also set up a wide range of bonuses and allowances to reward various types of talents since 2017.
In response to the Belt and Road initiative put forward by the central government, Changchun makes full use of its regional advantages as a transportation hub of the northeastern Asia, and has launched a series of major projects in railway manufacturing industry, auto manufacturing industry and corn plantation to attract foreign capital.
"Latvian enterprises should strengthen their communication and cooperation with Changchun in regards to automobile transportation so as to learn from the best," said Helmuts Kols, counselor of the embassy of Latvia in China.
