Founded in 1992 as a provincial development zone, Datong Economic and Technological Development Zone (国家级大同经济开发区) was recognized as a national-level economic development zone in 2010.
With a planned area of 239.4 square kilometers, the zone has consistently attracted companies from several countries and regions such as the United States, India, the United Kingdom and Australia, to invest in projects in sectors such as medicine, chemicals, machinery manufacturing, food processing, new materials and modern services.
There have been seven major industrial parks including medical, manufacturing and aviation industrial parks, established in the development zone.
