Shanxi province has abundant solar energy and wind energy resources with 3,000 hours of total annual sunshine due to its location on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in Northwest China, leading to a thriving new energy industry in the province.
By the end of March 2018, the wind farms and photovoltaic bases in Shanxi had a total installed capacity of 15.21 million kW, an increase of 94 percent compared with 2015, making it the leader in China. Electricity generation by wind power and photovoltaic power increased around 33 percent and more than fourfold respectively.
There have been several leading photovoltaic bases in Datong city, Shouyang county and Ruicheng county, further improving Shanxi’s energy structure.
Next, Shanxi will further advance the development of its local new energy sector, including photovoltaic, wind, hydro, and biomass power generation. Also, it will promote pumped-storage hydroelectric stations along the Yellow River.
