East China's Zhejiang province signed a framework agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in Beijing on Aug 20 to jointly promote its rural vitalization.

The agreement is the first of its kind in China that will combine the efforts and resources of the local and central government to realize the vitalization of a province's rural areas.

It stipulates that the two parties will collaborate to conceive new concepts, make new standards, construct a new mechanism of communication and shape together a professional and efficient team of workers when undertaking the work in rural areas. Zhejiang will pilot the rural vitalization and create demonstration areas of modernized agriculture and villages with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

Che Jun, Party chief of Zhejiang, said the province, as a cradle of China's "Beautiful Village" initiative and a forerunner of rural vitalization in the new era, will endeavor to make strides toward the comprehensive development of its rural areas.

Han Changfu, China's minister of agriculture, said the joint work to be done in Zhejiang would be of significance to the whole country and he pledged to reinforce support to the East China province in the hope of learning lessons that could be applied nationwide.
