A Greater Bay Area health alliance opened in Zhuhai on Aug 12 to advance medical imaging in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao through academic exchanges and scientific research. Medical imaging exposes internal structures hidden by the skin and bones and facilitates the identification and treatment of disease.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Medical Imaging Alliance was initiated by Shan Hong, president of the 5th Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University, who is its first chairman.

According to Shan, the alliance is under the jurisdiction of the Guangdong Medical Doctor Association. It will carry out various exchanges and cooperation, and increase talent cultivation relying on advantageous technology, a good environment, and the area’s humanistic and medical resources.

Alliance members include Dr Law Chun Key, president of the Hong Kong College of Radiologists; Dr Kuok Cheong U, deputy director of the Health Bureau of Macao SAR; Prof Jiang Xinqing, vice president of Guangzhou First People's Hospital; and radioactive medical representatives in the Pearl River Delta.
