Suzhou musical instruments

As early as the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty, Suzhou musical instruments were already very popular with the best craftsmanship in China. In particular, Erhu and flute, with their inherent local features and unique styles, distinguish themselves from others.

Today there are folk musical instruments plants No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and western musical instruments plant in Suzhou, featuring more than 100 kinds of instruments including Jinghu, Erhu, dulcimer, Ruan, Zheng, flute, Xiao, Sheng, timpani, Suona, gong, cymbals, violin and electric guitar. Premium rosewood Erhu and drum were honored best musical instruments by Jiangsu province and the Ministry of Light Industry. China’s folk instruments traditionally don’t have bass instruments. The cello and other western instruments usually fill their place. Suzhou instrument craftsmen successfully created the Laruan to fill the gap.
