Jiangsu Police Institute was founded in June 1949 and was the first of its kind in China. The institute was the first among its likes to receive undergraduate education evaluation by the Ministry of Education and get positive reviews. The institute is home to more than 5,700 full-time students by May 2014 and 6,000 vocational education students. It has given on-the-job training to 3,500 policemen annually. The institute has 642 faculty members and ten teaching departments offering 13 full-time undergraduate programs. In September 2015, the Ministry of Public Security named the institute a facility a research center for its modern policing service reform.
