Chinese delegation triumphs at Russia Intl Festival of Fireworks

The Chinese pyrotechnics delegation Hunan Fire-Show won the championship and the Audience Choice Award at the 8th Russia International Festival of Fireworks in the Russian western city of Smolensk on Aug 4.

Five delegations from China, Russia, Belarus and Norway vied for the championship.

With a theme of the Dream of the Orient, the fireworks display by Hunan Fire-Show captivated Smolensk spectators with aerial pyrotechnics choreographed with music and special effects.

Following a one-minute fireworks show with special effects, the second part of the show delivered a burst of lights and creativity. Views of small bridges and flowing streams were outlined in fireworks, blending harmoniously with a trio of flutes, drums and Chinese lutes.

The exquisite design aimed to let audience enjoy the authentic Chinese-style fireworks and appreciate 5,000 years' Chinese history.

After the show, six judges gave high scores to the Chinese delegation, and an internet poll also showed that Hunan Fire-Show was favored by 48.09 percent of viewers, ranking first among the five.

According to the general manager of Hunan Fire-Show, the second part only lasted four minutes. The key lay in depicting the profundity and extent of Chinese culture in such a limited time and combining the pyrotechnics with music and special effects.

The Russia International Festival of Fireworks has been held for eight years with an annual attendance of about 20,000 people. It's one of the greatest fireworks festivals in Russia incorporating fireworks displays, recreational events and amusement activities.
