An advisory group of 32 global experts, including 19 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was established on July 30 to provide intellectual support for the construction of the Zhejiang Greater Bay Area.

Yuan Jiajun, governor of East China's Zhejiang province, issued letters of appointment to experts at a conference on Monday.

These scientists from different academic fields are expected to offer professional advice and suggestions to policy makers, help promote the international cooperation in the area, give academic support and facilitate the collaboration between companies, universities, and research institutes over the next five years.

The construction of the Zhejiang Greater Bay Area, an economic and industrial belt centered around Hangzhou Bay, was proposed at the province's 14th Congress of the Communist Party of China last June. The main goal of the construction is to strengthen the interconnection of cities in the bay area.

It is predicted that by 2022, the economic aggregate of the Zhejiang Greater Bay Area will reach 6 trillion yuan ($880.3 billion), with the digital and high-tech industries as the main contributors.
