A group of students from Inner Mongolian colleges volunteered for sand control activities in Zhenglan Banner, Xiliin (Xilin) Gol League on July 19.

The students adopted various approaches to fighting sandification including building protective barriers and planting drought-tolerant trees.

Baishaodainuoer, a heavily sandy part of Zhenglan Banner, has more than 2,600 hectares of saline-alkali soil. In 2014, a campaign to attend to such areas was launched with support from the local government and environmental protection associations.

The campaign is expected to plant nearly 40 million square meters of vegetation this year.
