The third China Actinium Physics and Chemistry Academic Seminar opened in Baotou, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on July 19, reports Baotou Daily.

The two-day seminar, co-hosted by the Chinese Nuclear Society and the Key Laboratory in Surface Physics and Chemistry, invited some 200 scholars, experts and young researchers from all over the country engaged in scientific research, technology development and engineering applications of lanthanide elements.

The seminar attendees included Li Guanxing, honorary chairman of the Chinese Nuclear Society and academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Tan Zhixin, chairman of the Association of Science of China Academy of Engineering Physics; Chai Zhifang, academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Wu Erbin, deputy mayor of Baotou.

Actinium series materials have a wide range of applications in military and civilian nuclear technology. The academic seminar is a regular academic meeting initiated by the Key Laboratory of Surface Physics and Chemistry in August 2014. It has twice been successfully held in Mianyang and Chengdu in Sichuan province.

It has served as a platform for exchanging and summarizing research results in the field of actinium physics and chemistry in China.
