Zhuhai, Guangdong is ready for next round of development

A series of policy packages was recently released to energize Zhuhai's high-level development.

Aiming for a core leading role on the west bank of the Pearl River Delta, the Guangdong city charted the path for the next three years in terms of realizing high-quality growth with scientific and technological innovations, cultivating high-tech enterprises, and promoting technical transformations.

With big incentives on offer, Zhuhai is striving for a better innovative business environment to attract more talented persons and quality projects. Plans are for at least three unicorn companies to be introduced to or cultivated in Zhuhai by 2020 with an estimated 30 firms and 150 seed-stage businesses with the potential to become unicorns also in place.

In addition, under the Zhuhai Talent Program, the city is expected to have 100 potent innovative entrepreneurial teams that grasp core technologies, as well as 200 entrepreneurial projects by high-caliber talents. The talent pool will be enriched with another 50,000 college graduates and 10,000 postgraduates plus 1,700 overseas returnees who are expected to start businesses in the city.

In promoting green and digital development, heavy investments will go to technological upgrading. Enterprises will be subsidized in purchasing advanced equipment and establishing their own R&D center and laboratories. At least 4,800 sets of industrial robots will be placed to increase production efficiency.

Companies that already enjoy a strong R&D capacity will continue to have steady access to preferential government treatment. According to the policies, Zhuhai will award 100,000 yuan ($15,649) to enterprises it acknowledges as High & New-Technology Enterprises with the hope that their total number will surpass 1,800 by 2020.
