A launch ceremony of the Specialty Committee of Manchu Clinical Medicine of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Society (WFCMS) was held in Changchun, capital city of Northeast China's Jilin province on June 16.

The launch signals that China is able to set up a platform for developing, protecting and inheriting the theory of Manchu medicine, diagnosis and treatment technology, drug research and development, as well as promote the culture of Manchu medicine.

Sponsored by the WFCMS and organized by Changchun University of Chinese Medicine (CUCM) and its affiliated hospital, the committee's purpose is to collect theories on Manchu medicine, improve its presence in academic circles and enhance exchange and cooperation across the globe.

According to the organizers, the committee will serve as a platform to integrate the resources from all walks of life and promote international exchange and communication on construction of the Manchu medicine system, formulation of standards, team building and personnel training.

It will conduct research, taking full advantages of the university's academic strengths to promote Manchu medicine. A pharmaceutical enterprise alliance will be established to boost its industrial development.

The first academic meeting of the committee of Manchu medicine was also held, coinciding with the launch ceremony and attracting about 300 experts.

Besides its ice, snow and winter chill, China's northeast region is also known for its unique Manchu-Han hybrid culture.

As an important part of the Chinese nation, the Manchu ethnic group has a long history and its medicine has made a great contribution to the people of northern China.
