The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off in Russia on June 14 and will run through to the finals a month later. The Mordovia Arena in Saransk is being kept cool by Gree Electric Appliances, the sole supplier of water-cooled screw chillers and one of the major suppliers of air conditioners for the venue.

The Mordvinia competition venue, a newly built stadium for the group games of the World Cup -- the quadrennial international football competition -- has been equipped with an LHE water-cooled screw chiller independently developed by Gree. The product is highly efficient and saves energy by adopting an advanced semi-hermetic dual-screw compressor, the latest type of heat exchanger and an optimized new-type throttling device.

The world's largest air conditioner supplier, based in Qianshan of Zhuhai, won the contract due to its reputation for reliability, energy conservation, cutting-edge technology, and quality service. It entered the Russian market in 2001 and quickly established itself, seizing a market share of 20 percent in 2017, up from 11.5 percent in 2015.

Thanks to its strengths, in February Gree was contracted to become the only supplier of air conditioners for Gwadar Port in Pakistan -- a pivotal hub along the Belt & Road which is emerging as a new energy corridor for China and Pakistan.

Gree also boasts a strong market presence in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, and other members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
