Changsha singled out for intelligent manufacturing

Changsha manufacturing enterprises were put in the spotlight by Hong Kong media outlets on June 4 when journalists made a tour to the Changsha Economic and Technological Development Zone in Changsha county.

In order to advance communication and exchanges between Central China's Hunan province and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, a tour of Hunan manufacturing enterprises was co-organized by the Hunan provincial government press office and the Hong Kong Federation of Journalists.

The shield machines of China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Co (CRCHI) attracted the attention of visitors, who aimed their cameras at the state-of-the-art equipment.

CRCHI is the only mainstream enterprise that develops and manufactures boring machines on its own, without importing designs or patents from overseas counterparts.

With its self-developed products, such as tunnel-boring machines, shield machines, and special equipment leading the domestic market, CRCHI has become a world-leading supplier and solution provider of intelligent tunnel construction equipment, according to an employee of CRCHI.

The Central Chinese province has been striving to develop into a national hub of the intelligent manufacturing industry, with great effort going into the building of industrial parks, introducing talented personnel, and offering favorable policies.

The 495 industrial robots employed at the welding workshop of GAC FCA Changsha branch amazed participants.

"I had the impression that many workers are needed at an automobile workshop and I did not expect it to be so automated," Chen Ruixi, a journalist at Phoenix Satellite Television, pointed out.

It has been reported that those 18 robots at the final assembly station are capable of welding a car body in white in just 49 seconds.

"The harmonious interaction between workers and robots is very impressive," said Chen.

The implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area bring new cooperation opportunities to Hunan and Hong Kong. The media tour will further promote bilateral culture and people-to-people exchanges and encourage competitive Hunan companies to expand outward.
