Foundations were laid on May 29 for Zhuhai You Ai (Friendship) International Hospital in Jinwan District and accompanying Medical Healthcare Center in Xiangzhou District -- the West and East wings of Zhuhai. The Sino-Japanese joint ventures are valued at 7.5 billion yuan ($1.2 billion).

The 6-billion-yuan ($939 million) hospital in Sanzao Town will cover .1 sq km (27.2 acres). The complex includes the Proton Radiotherapy Center, China-Japan Medical Examination Building, and Rehabilitation Center. Nurse training will be conducted by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tokyo.

The international hospital, in a scenic spot amid lush greenery, will benefit from Jinwan's thriving biomedicine industry and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, according to former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama. General counsel for the project, Hatoyama is also an adviser to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, which promotes friendly relations between China and Japan.

Costing 1.5 billion yuan ($235 million), the 32,000-sq-m (7.9-acre) project in Tangjiawan Town is to become a high-end comprehensive Medical Healthcare Center for well-being in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Featuring specialist treatment and sub-health management, medicine and healthcare headquarters/R&D operation, as well as medical fairs and business and leisure events, the facility will house the International Medical, Traditional Medical, and Health Services centers.

Well-equipped with Japan-made cutting-edge upscale medical apparatus and a convalescent rehabilitation system, the center is set to provide round-the-clock high-efficient quality services with patients' privacy and confidentiality highly valued.
