Zhuhai Orbita Aerospace Science & Technology will exchange and trade satellite data online at the Guiyang-based Global Big Data Exchange (GBDE), anticipating annual transactions of many billions of yuan over the next five years.

The arrangement was announced in Guiyang at the China International Big Data Expo 2018 on May 27. Through it, the remote-sensing industry will be boosted by at least 7,000TB of Orbita data each year to propel transactions, processing, service, and project incubation.

It's been hailed as the biggest milestone in the industry since the 2015 opening of China's first big data exchange in the capital of Guizhou Province. The GBDE reportedly has over 2,000 members from industries and sectors including finance, telecommunications, information technology, and media.

Orbita, based in Tangjiawan, is developing the "Zhuhai-1" micro-nano constellation, a commercial data system for hyperspectral and video satellites. The constellation is to eventually contain 34 remote-sensing satellites. Seven are now in orbit, including the Guiyang-1 (OHS-03) launched this year under partnership with the Guiyang government.

Orbita plans a comprehensive satellite big data industrial base in Guiyang within two years. This will allow satellite data from ground receiving stations across China to be exchanged before being applied to broad fields such as people's livelihoods.

Orbita chairman Yan Jun says data solutions based on quantitative remote sensing analysis are good for both socioeconomic decision-making and administrative management.
