Hainan's five intangible cultural heritages chosen for state-level revitalization

Five intangible cultural heritages of Hainan have been selected into the first national traditional handicraft revitalization catalogue, according to the Hainan Provincial Preservation Center of ICH on May 24.

The five projects include Li's skills of spinning, dying, weaving and embroidering, Li's costume making skills, wood carving, coconut carving, and Li's original potting skill.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology jointly selected 383 traditional handicraft projects nationwide in 14 categories, aiming to offer support to major projects with a profound foundation, production sizing, development prospects and employment promotion to create examples and mobilize development and prosperity of traditional techniques on a national scale.

Moreover, five more individuals were rated as national intangible cultural heritage project representative inheritors in the fifth list encompassing 1,082 successors with intangible cultural skills. They are Huang Zhaoan, skilled at Li's bamboo and wood instrumental music; Xu Rilong, a master of wood carving; Wang Zhaoliang, skilled at Li's bow-drill fire making; Tan Zheng, knowledgeable about baysalt sun-curing; and Wang Shubao of the South China Sea Path Transformation Sacred Book.
