Students from Wuta Temple East Street Elementary School visited Inner Mongolia Morin Khuur Arts Museum in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on the occasion of International Museum Day (IMD) on May 18.

Coordinated by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), IMD was created in 1977 to attract public attention to and participation in the development of museums around the world, and this year runs under the theme “Hyperconnected museums: New approaches, new publics”.

After viewing different kinds of morin khuur at the museum, students were shown how to play the instrument, giving them an intimate experience of Inner Mongolia's ethnic, musical and cultural charm.

The morin khuur is a unique traditional two-string instrument from Inner Mongolia and was listed among the first national intangible cultural heritage items approved by the State Council in April 2009.
